The TRUER SKEWER™
When truing a wheel with a thru-axle hub, something needs to be put in the hub in place of the axle so it can rest in the truing stand. This tool is designed specifically for that.
The green rod fits any 12mm thru axle hub. The red collars are for 15mm thru, and the gold collars are for 20mm.
The collars have o-rings on the inside so the whole assembly stays in place on the hub while checking dish. They are precisely machined so the dishing tool can be adjusted to the collar.
The 12mm rod also has o-rings which contact the inside of the hub, preventing it from sliding out while the wheel is out of the stand.
CNC Machined Coasters
This coaster is the result of persistence in self education. For me, the best way to learn is by doing. I started this project thinking I’d whip up some quick coasters to add to the web store; something simple and affordable. After 4 months, a self-taught crash course in vacuum fixturing, a pile of broken end mills and a heap of scrap aluminum, I reign victorious!
Featuring a unique 7 point rounded star shape, concentric curved slots for water capture, and multi-color aluminum anodizing. These coasters capture up to 1 fl oz (30mL) of sweat from your favorite beverage receptacle with a maximum base diameter of 2.9” (74mm).
The HOT SPOT™
The Russell Makes Hot Spot™ is the final word in fire pit grillery. Effortlessly adjust the grill position over the fire for heat control variability second to none, even when the grill is already hot.
The Hot Spot™ is no longer available for purchase, but remains as one of my favorite creations. It is simple and confidence inspiring to use, and is designed to be constructed with widely available materials that require minimal processing.
The Nipple Tray
The Nipple Tray and Poker helps you lace bicycle wheels faster with less effort. Pour the nipples onto the tray and they will fall into the slots, leaving the head facing up. Poke the Poker into the nipple to pick it up and thread it onto the spoke.
The tray is CNC machined aluminum, available anodized or raw, and designed for 14g nipples up to 14mm long. It features an engraved RM logo and Poker Hole in the upper corners, and slot bridges for extra rigidity.
The Poker Handle is machined by hand on a lathe from aluminum and anodized (or not) to match the tray. The Poker Shank is made from recycled stainless steel bicycle spoke, hand ground to a point.

Auto-Kick 5000
The Auto-Kick 5000 is a custom mechanism built for a bicycle rim rolling machine. It keeps the lead end of the rolled extrusion from re-entering the rollers upon completing the first 360°, then gets out of the way to keep from putting scratches in the rims. It is automated with a couple photo eye sensors and a latching relay.
Rim-Chuck 3000
The Rim-Chuck 3000 is a custom adjustable fixture for holding bicycle rims in a spoke hole drilling machine. It easily adjusts to hold an infinite number of rim sizes from 630(27”) to 349(16”) while keeping the rim centered on the machine. The machine previously had exchangeable fixtures which were cumbersome and time consuming to exchange leading to excessively long setup times and product inconsistencies. The Rim-Chuck 3000 stays on the machine at all times and has been in service 5+ years, only requiring occasional calibration.
