Installation instructions for the Russell Makes Hot Spot™
Orient the ground stake fins perpendicular to the fire pit and hammer it in nice and straight. If it’s on an angle, so will be your cooking surface.
*The cap screw in the top of the ground stake is sacrificial. It is there to take the beating of the hammer. It’s OK if it gets dented and it’s OK to leave it in place (not shown in video).
*Be sure to leave the machined portion of the ground stake above ground.Your Hot Spot comes pre-greased, but keeping a little waterproof grease on the machined portion of the ground stake will keep it from rusting and keep your hot spot pivoting smoothly.
Install the main square tube by sliding it onto the ground stake.
While holding the brake lever up, install the Hot Spot onto the main tube. Lightly push the brake lever down to lock it in the desired position.
To adjust the vertical position, hold the upper handle with one hand and gently lift the brake lever with the other hand.
To adjust the swing position, simply push it side to side.
Caring for your Hot Spot™
The Hot Spot is made of steel which can rust if left outside. It comes oiled to prevent rust but Mother Nature is relentless. I suggest storing the Hot Spot and the main tube indoors when not in use.
*Note: Only use food grade oil on the cooking surface.Since the ground stake is meant to be installed permanently, it is important to keep the exposed portion lightly greased with a waterproof grease.
If you wish to relocate your hot spot, the ground you hammered it into may not want to give up the ground stake. If it’s putting up a fight, remove the cap screw and install a 3/8”-16 threaded eye bolt (not included) to get a better grip.
